2 Kings 4:1-7 tells of a widow who was in debt, and in order to pay for it, his sons were threatened to be taken away from her to be slaves. She came to Elisha the prophet to ask for help and he told her, ” Go up and down the street and borrow jugs and bowls from your neighbors. And not just a few – all you can get…” (v. 3, MSG)
Then the widow followed Elisha’s order to fill all the containers she got with the little of the olive oil left for the family to use for the rest of their lives. And guess what? The widow was able to fill out all the jars and containers until there is nothing to be filled. And Elisha told her to sell everything she has gathered to be able to pay for all her debts.
Sometimes, God is only waiting for us to empty ourselves so that He could fill us up. And we can only receive as much as we can contain. He knows it! And He wants to fill us as much as He can. But it will be up to us to decide whether we can be filled or not. Why keep your potentials to yourself? Why not try helping others when you can? The Lord wants us to receive blessings anew from morning to morning, but He can only work that out when we’re ready to be filled; consumed because we gave ourselves out to something bigger than us.
