Take a Pick

“In the perfect & eternal world the Law will vanish. But the results of having lived faithfully under it will not.”

One of the Twitter accounts I follow is that of CSLewisDaily which posts quotes from the famous man (he’s done a lot of things so I seriously can’t choose which one to use to refer to him. This one would be better.)

Again, I remember one message during the latest Sunday service (my second time referring to that. It lingered that much) that God can not punish the late comers but He can choose to reward the early birds.

Think about it. Which one would you choose to be?

“A More Beautiful You”

In a world that’s becoming more and more superficial, here’s a song for you.

UP in the 73rd UAAP

This post was inspired by June who mentioned in her tweet that instead of Maroons (UP’s moniker), she suggested to the CHK to maybe consider UP PLEASE or UP PARANG AWA MO NA (UP HAVE MERCY). =))

(For the record, my suggestion was UP NAMAAAAAN (I can’t think of a counterpart), and Shie‘s suggestion was UP UTANG NA LOOB (For this one too. Haha!) :p)

Oh, Oblation, I miss you!

My Vote Goes To…

Just a few days to go and it’s the 2010 elections. I have been very excited to vote since it’s my first time to do so, and well, it’s the National Elections. Plus, it’s the first automated elections (which I am crossing my fingers on). I lined up and took several days of leave just to have me register in the City of Taguig.

Last year, I was inclined to voting this particular President-VP tandem. However, my heart is not wholeheartedly into it. It was only until Bro. Eddie Villanueva declared that he is going to run (Which is what I have been anticipating on), I know definitely who to vote for.

I am for Bro. Eddie!

My 365 in 2010 Project: FAIL!

I didn’t see that this year would be a busy one for me. But all’s well, and I believe I’m up to reaching out greater heights.

So far, this 2nd month of 2010 proved to be really promising. Keeping fingers crossed, head looking up high. :)

So far that’s it for now. Abstract muna. I hope to have time to put some new entry here. ;)

Risks

While doing my morning ritual of checking out the Tweets that I follow, I stumbled upon Sitti‘s and one of her updates says, “If you wait for perfect conditions, you will never get anything done.” This was inspired by the verse from Ecclesiastes 11:4 (Let me use the version from The Amplified Bible) which says,

He who observes the wind [and waits for all conditions to be favorable] will not sow, and he who regards the clouds will not reap.

Too many times, we came across circumstances where decisions are necessary; and not just simple decisions as what color of flip-flops you would wear or what hairstyle you would have today. Sometimes, decisions which we have to make is a matter of life and death (Yeah, exaggerated maybe.) – Life and death of a career; life and death of a relationship; life and death of a breakthrough.

Most of the time, we calculate too much – looking at our surroundings, checking if each strand of eyebrow is at place or if our shoes are well-polished, not knowing that there proves to be situations when getting caught open and willing to change and motion bears good results.

Waiting for the perfect time to come may not happen if that’s what holds you from doing whatever you need to do, or want to do. Unless you make an action or two, given the circumstances where you’re in, you could never move from where you are now.

Don't be afraid of crossing the other side of the street... Like a kid, there is Someone who could guide you through until you can do it yourself ;)

Taking risks may cost you something, right. But would you rather learn from it or play it safe, waiting for the perfect time until never finding out what could have been? Your choice.

Movie Review: (500) Days of Summer

Spent my Monday holiday with friend, Diane (Oops, we forgot to get a pic of us. Hehe.) Well, we were supposed to go out last Saturday but due to typhoon Santi and his/her/its strong winds and raindrops, we were unable to do so. We then decided to pursue the plans today. Agenda: Bring brotha for him to roam around MOA and the two of us watch (500) Days of Summer. Hehe.

Prior to the viewing of the said movie, I’ve been asking friends on feedback about the movie. I did a little research as well regarding what other people can say about it. Mixed reviews. But that did not stop us from watching it. (After all, Diane and I, being the optimists that we are call ourselves sunny people. She is Sunshine; I am Summer. Should I miss the chance watching a movie with one of the lead stars having the same name as my alter-ego? HAHAHA! Crazy me. :P )

The first parts of the movie – BORING!!! Actually, the movie all throughout is boring. But being boring does not equate to being uninteresting (Haha! Confusing??? :P )

(500) Days is a story about Tom and Summer. In the beginning, the narrator states that it is not a love story. Fine. But behind my mind, “What else could it be?”

There you go, it is the usual boy-meets-girl story as the narrator suggested. However, as what we said a while ago after the movie is done, it aimed to go past the conventional love stories – that is, minus the mushy moments, witty romantic script exchanges, and grand gestures which will make you just say, “Awww… :)

(500) Days aimed to deliver the realities of “love”, as most of us experience. It tried to show the audience that not because you feel as such, it is true; and that not everything that you wish for is what’s meant to be. Most of the time, there might be some reality which you are failing to see because you refuse to see and instead, dwell in the past which you believe should be your present and your future.

As always, I try to find some personal lessons in every movie I see. For (500) Days of Summer, they are as follows:

1. My belief that in relationships there should be no gray areas, strengthened more. Tom and Summer had that arrangement. They never served each other with service as it should be when you love.

2. Intimacy and commitment should always go together. What you give out and take in are things which are totally related to the level of commitment you have (or want to give) with another person.

3. Love is special. It might be something you cannot explain yourself but one thing’s for sure, it is real.

4. When you are in your lowest point and in your saddest, make use of your emotions or your current situation wisely. It is never bad to divert your energy on things which yields good results.

5. Grieve, yes; but give yourself a chance to move on. When one season in your life is over, for sure, another one is coming; and it might be the one for you. :)

Movie Review: Up

Who said traveling in a flying house is impossible? Well, we all know that a TV show of such title existed in the 80s but this thing was revived in the 21st century with Disney and Pixar’s Up.

Carl Frederikson is a kid who likes adventure but keeps it to himself. He was only able to voice out his dream of traveling to far places when he met Ellie, a young girl who wanted to put up her house just right after Paradise Falls in South America.

Years passed by and the two built their dreams together. Then came the time when the promise they made to each other to live in Paradise Falls was only left for Carl to make.

Now that their area was made into an industrial place, how will Carl Frederikson save the memories he and Ellie had, particularly the house where the two of them began their adventure together? Will his new friend, wilderness expert, Russell, gain his “assisting the elderly” badge and help Carl reach South America as a cross-my-heart-promise to Ellie?

Up is more than just a movie of reaching a far-flung place via a house which flies on gazillions of balloons. It is a story of reaching – reaching your aspirations and reaching out to other people.

Aside from giving me tears even without yet getting to the first half, the movie never failed to give the audience a good taste of humor from start to finish. And like any other Pixar movie, it goes deep down your humanness and allows you to search yourself and have several realizations – in a colorful manner.

Up’s also gained me some important life lessons. These are:

1. Moving on is essential. Don’t get stuck and feel miserable.

2. For every single thing that comes to an end, a new thing is about to flourish. Never inhibit yourself from experiencing it.

3. Greed gets you down. And the cliff where you could fall from is higher than you could imagine.

4. Power is not everything. Hence, use it properly.

5. Never let your hurts get the best of you. Learn from it and don’t hold grudges.

6. Creativity brings you to places. So let all of it flow!

7. Never be afraid of intimidation. You are your own self and are made to stand out. It doesn’t matter if you are alpha or whatever.

8. There are circumstances which requires our stepping up and going an extra mile. Just give it. It won’t hurt you.

9. It pays to be loyal. Seriously. Hehe. :)

10. Sometimes, it’s the boring stuff which you remember the most. :)

It sure came late in the country but it’s worth the watch. Two thumbs up for Up! :)

P.S. Don’t come to the cinema late so you could catch the short film before the feature entitled Partly Cloudy. :)
